Materials define the building

The materials you choose determine how a building looks, how it performs, how long it lasts, and how much it costs to maintain. At Cornerstone, material selection is never an afterthought — it is one of the first conversations we have with every client.

Performance first, aesthetics second

A beautiful facade that deteriorates in five years is not a good choice. We start every material decision with performance criteria: durability, maintenance requirements, thermal performance, fire resistance, and expected lifespan. Only once the performance requirements are met do we consider aesthetic options within that range.

Local sourcing where possible

We prioritise Dutch and European suppliers for several reasons. Shorter supply chains mean lower costs, faster delivery, and smaller environmental impact. Local materials also tend to perform better in the Dutch climate because they were developed for it.

Testing before committing

For any material we have not used before, we request samples and test them in real conditions before specifying them at scale. This has saved our clients from costly mistakes more than once. A material that looks perfect in a showroom does not always perform in a Dutch winter.

We do not chase trends. We choose materials that will still look and perform well in twenty years.
